Oh my. I was gonna remain quiet on this one. I really was. Honest.

*bites lip*

But then I read the transcript of Katie Couric's interview of Sarah Palin, and I couldn't keep quiet anymore. Go see it for yourself.

You can read it, or watch, but I'd guess that the following spots are *painful* to watch:

(quotes from transcript):

"Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions."

"That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Helping the—it’s got to be all about job creation too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans and trade—we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as competitive, scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today—we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity."

Oh. MY. *shudders*

This woman is either

A) Spouting her spoon-fed talking points while diligently toeing the line and keeping
her real thoughts to herself, (which begs the question: what is so heinous about those
thoughts that her 'handlers' don't want them heard?) ;

B) An incredible idiot, in the tradition of our current Commander-in-Thief.
(Or... perhaps I should take that back: my last statement is unkind and insulting to idiots.)

Even people who've previously defended Sara Palin are now recanting, after hearing her babble semi-pertinent-sounding talking points in Ms. Couric's direction. But many of the statements Ms. Palin made weren't sentences -- they weren't even coherent thoughts, let alone answers to Ms. Couric's questions. Ms. Palin's answering most questions with the equivalent of "Well, he's gonna, because he's done stuff before!" does not demonstrate any sort of a grip on an issue; it's nothing more than verbally pointing a finger back to John McCain, with far too many words.

To the Sarah Palin supporters: What happened to the (purported) idea that Ms.Palin can stand on her own two feet? That she can 'take it'? Here was an excellent chance for her to prove her mettle, and she completely dropped the ball. As a potential leader of our country (because, as we know, if McCain were to be president and die, she'd then be sworn in) -- I want my vice president to be able to clearly articulate what they think, what their plan is, why it is better than another person's plan, and how that plan is going to work in the real world. From what we've seen, Ms. Palin cannot even construct several clear sentences in a row, in her own native language. For someone who is seeking a role in power in this country, this is a BIG PROBLEM.

We cannot afford to have even one more inarticulate, mind-numbingly stupid being vaulted to power in this country. We already have too many, and they are blindly making important decisions that require clarity, planning and forethought -- all of which they do not have. "Good-looking" and/or "Loud" are NOT synonyms for "Smart" and "Good Leader." Watch the actions and the communication closely; dig deeper than just the surface, and superficial sound-bytes.

Please, please... for the love of family and friends... please pay attention to what is going on, even if politics nauseate you. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN, FOLKS.

We can't afford to have this level of dumb running our country any more. We can't.

*steps down off soapbox*
