Last Thursday, I went to the doctor, to see if I could get some help in getting rid of a 3-day-old migraine. The Imitrex shot they gave me sent me crashing over into a strange land, held the headache out at a distance (but did not make it go away), and generally Was Not Fun (despite the fact that the MA who gave me the butt-shot is a cutie). I sweated like mad, had awful prickly feelings on my scalp, felt all 'churny' inside, and fell off the table when I went to get up. Oh, and I felt really drunk, too. But Not Fun Drunk. They didn;t do a whole lot to help -- they just stuck me in a taxi and sent me home to sleep it off. But unfortunately, I couldn't sleep.
Later, after a large amount of research and a consult with a doctor I highly trust, it was determined that yes, I did have serotonin poisoning (serotonin syndrome) from the shot, and no, I don't have it ongoing, but must watch what I take in the future (and NO MORE Imitrex for me. EVER.). And I also now have a certain sort of headache that is like Rebound, but comes on like a maelstrom. The result of it is that I have a migraine, but cannot take any meds for it (i.e.: no tylenol, ibuprofen or excedrin, or any other NSAID-containing meds). I can have peppermint drops (which I have been having), earplugs and sunglasses, cool compresses, iced drinks, soothing radio shows, and as much additional dark as I can get for my eyes.
Because it came on due to the large amount of NSAIDS I was taking, I've been told to 'wait this migraine out, until it's gone.' Um, OW. But I want this headache to END, so I will do my best, and follow instructions (no matter how dizzy, headachy or nauseous I may feel). As such, there will be no concert tonight for the Deb (it'll be good music indeed, but that many people in a public space makes a headachy Deb claustrophobic and nutzo -- and those are NOT good additions to the Deb).
And if I still feel ill tomorrow, lisakit's guest can sub as my character in our game (I'd hate to whine and growl at everyone, then go throw up and be dizzy. Not good Fighter behavior, really.
**Bighugs** to Vixy and Tony and Betsy for the show tonight, and to everyone else who I'll miss. I'll try HARD to be well for the next shindig, I promise. Have fun for me, k?
