Writer's Block: First Aid - Mental Feng Shui
....revising what (& who) will fit in the room....
Writer's Block: First Aid
Have you ever performed CPR, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or the Heimleich maneuver on someone in an emergency?
Yes.  When I was a senior in HS, I worked at Burger King.  One day, the manager I worked with was found passed out, with blue lips, in the back room.  She wasn't breathing (from what I could determine) and since I was trained as a lifeguard (including rescue breathing and CPR), I started rescue breathing, and checked for a pulse (she had one).  I kept up the rescue breathing, but it was odd, because I could scarely get the air into her, and it would whoosh back out again.  Even so I kept doing it -- and  I also had someone call 9-1-1  The paramedics came, and gave her oxygen.  And other staff members thought I was a hero.... it was really weird, because I wasn't the one that got her breathing again, it was the paramedics -- they were the heroes.  I just did what I was trained to do, until they arrived.  I didn't feel like I did anything special -- I felt like they did all the work.    Turned out, she had had a very bad asthma attack, and when I got to her, I was having to force air into her constricted bronchial sacs.  It was scarey, but only *after* I was done. During it, I just did what I was trained to do.

If you hadn't done what you did, she wouldn't be alive when the paramedics got there. Yes, I would call that a hero :)
